  General Notes:

Mary's mother, Mary Feely MS Grimes, was the informant of Mary's birth in 1867. She gave notice before the registrar, Trinian Moffat, at Hamilton, Lanarkshire, on 1 October 1867, and made her X mark.
Note: GRO Scotland had and may stilll have this birth indexed as Mary Seely.

Mary Feely was baptised by Father James Danaher, at St Mary's RC Chapel in Hamilton, on 13 October 1867. Her parents were recorded as 'Robert Feely and Mary Feely', and Mary's godparents were William Sherry and Margaret Sherry.
Note: William Sherry was married to Mary's aunt Ann Feely, and Mary also had an aunt Margaret Feely. No Margaret Sherry is known of as yet.

In 1871 the census for Hamilton recorded Mary living at 3 James Street with her family. She was aged 4 years and had been born in Hamilton.

Mary was recorded in the 1881 census for Hamilton, living with her mother and seven other family members at 20 Church Street. She was recorded as aged 14 years and was born in Hamilton. She was a 'scholar'.

When Mary Feely married in 1889 she was 22 years old, and living at 27 Castle Street. She was a domestic servant. Her father, Robert, was already dead. He had been a coal miner. The witnesses were both called Feely, spelt differently, and were her brother and sister.

At the address noted on their wedding certificate of 1889, Peter and Mary Quigley, were recorded in the 1891 census for Hamilton as Peter and Mary Tweedlie, with the same birthplaces and ages as the two young Quigleys married in 1889.

Mary Quigley was recorded by the 1901 census for Bellshill living with her husband and son, next door to her married sister, Ellen, and two unmarried brothers, Robert and Patrick, in Viewpark Square. Mary was 34 years old, and her birthplace was noted as Hamilton, Lanarkshire.

In the 1911 census Peter Tweedly was recorded living with his wife, Mary Tweedly, and son Peter at 8 3/4 Meadowhead Road in Wishaw. Mary was recorded as 43 years old and had been married 21 years. She had had ten children born alive but only one child still living. She had been born in Hamilton.

When Mary died, her death certificate recorded her as resident at 111 Meadowhead Road, Wishaw. Her recorded age at death was 43 years. Her husband, like her father, was a coal miner. Her parents were both deceased at that time, but her husband survived her and later remarried. 3 4 11 12 13 14 15

MEADOWHEAD ROAD

Meadowhead Road in Wishaw, where Mary was resident at the time of her death, is quite near St Patrick's RC Church in Shieldmuir Road, Craigneuk, where Mary's granddaughter and namesake, Mary Feeley Quigley, was married in 1950.

  Medical Notes:

The doctor who signed the death certificate was W. Wyper.

Mary's widowed husband, Peter Quigley, informed the registrar at Motherwell District office on the 24 July 1911 of her death, and signed the register.


Mary married Peter QUIGLEY, son of Patrick QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Margaret GEORGE (DNA Linked), on 12 July 1889 in RC Chapel, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Peter QUIGLEY was born 10 April 1866 at 11.20 pm in Gauchalland Row, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland 16 17 18 19, baptised on 2 June 1866 in St Joseph's RC Parish, Kilmarnock, Scotland 20 and died 15 December 1936 at 11.00 am in St Joseph's House, Garngadhill, Glasgow, Scotland 21.). The cause of his death was bronchitis.


  Marriage Notes:

Peter Quigley and Mary Feely married after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The celebrant was Father Peter Donnelly, who also married James Lynch and Elizabeth Cavanagh, whose daughter Alice would later marry Peter and Mary's son, Peter. The witnesses were Robert Feley [sic] and Ellen Feely.

Peter Quigley was 23 years old. He lived at 23 Castle Street, Hamilton and was a coal miner. His father was deceased

The bride, Mary Feely, lived at 27 Castle Street Hamilton. She was 22 years of age. Her occupation was domestic servant. Mary's father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 17 July 1889. Both the bride and groom and the witnesses signed the register. 1
