Another name for James was QUIGLEY, James Weaver.

  General Notes:

The 1841 census recorded a James Quigley, his wife Mary, and four young people ranging in age from 25 years to six months, their children if not named as such, living in Muslin Street in Bridgeton. James was a cotton handloom weaver and was in the 45-49 years of age group. His birthplace was Ireland.

In 1851 the census for Calton, Glasgow recorded a James Quigley lodging at 19 Brown Street. He was a married man of 58 years of age and had been born in Ireland. By occupation he was a cotton weaver.

NOTE: The son of James Quigley, of the same name, died in January 1851 in roughly the same area of town that this James was recorded living in. This death may explain in some way the absence of his wife Mary Duncan. Their daughter in law, Agnes Downie, wife of the dead man, gave information in her parish relief claim of October 1853 that her father in law James Quigley was deceased by the the time of the application, and his wife still living. A search of the 1851 census for Scotland has not yet found her whereabouts.

The 1851 census was taken on Sunday 30 March 1851. Agnes, the son in law of James Quigley, stated that her father in law was dead when she applied in October 1853 for poor relief. Catholic death and burial records show a death record for a James Quigley which may be this man; James was living in the East end of the city, we know he died about this time, and although the age is a bit high it is well within the range of possibility given that a non family member may have estimated it:
