QUIGLY,
- Born: About 1740
- Marriage (1): Unknown
Research Notes:
CAUTION
This group of Quigleys, some of whom became Tweedlies then Tweedies, have been assembled together for a variety of reasons: place of birth or marriage, name patterns, relationships and involvement with each other, but there are many gaps where proof is lacking, and although research is ongoing, documentary evidence is absent in many areas.
There are interconnections among them all in some way, but the actual biological relationships may not be exact, two 'brothers' may be cousins rather than siblings. The advantage of grouping them in this way is to focus on them as group with a view to further research. There are other Quigley groups that may link to this one, in Paisley and elsewhere, but the facts are just not available to determine any further what the links may be.
The children of William Quigly and Mary McVae all claim to have been born in Scotland and are associated with the Castle Douglas area then later the north of England. Some of Peter Quigly's children were born in Ireland, some in Scotland, and are noted as a group in Paisley Renfrewshire, along with other Quigleys who may also be related. There are links known. William Quigly and Mary McVae were sponsors at the baptism of the twins of Peter Quigly and Mary Logan in 1804 in Castle Douglas, indeed Mary baptised Sarah who was in danger of death. Mary Quigly's daughter, Rosanna Cairney, was a sponsor at the baptism in Paisley of Elizabeth, daughter of Bernard Quigly and Ann Nicholson.
In both groups the two forms of the surname Quigley and Tweedley, with their various spelling variations, are used.
QUIGLY married.
