  General Notes:

The 1901 census for Hamilton Lanarkshire recorded Agnes Tweedley living at 40 Duke Street with her husband and children. Her age was recorded as 40 years, and her birthplace as Wishaw, Lanarkshire.

In the younger Agnes Twedley's marriage certificate of 1904, her mother was recorded as 'Agnes Twedley MS Raite'.

The census of 1911 recorded Agnes Tweedley living in 97b Airbles Road Motherwell with her husband and three daughters, Jeanie, Rebecca and Sarah, and one male boarder, Matthew Scott, who was in fact her son in law. Agnes was 50 years old according to the entry and had been married for thirty years. She had had seven children of whom six were still living. Her birthplace was Cambusnethan Lanarkshire.

In the ship manifest of the SS Columbia sailing from Glasgow Scotland on 27 December 1919 were recorded the names of Samuel, Agnes and Sarah Tweedley bound for New York, where they arrived on 6 January 1920. Their ultimate destination was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All were Scots of British nationality, who had been living in Motherwell. All could read and write and all spoke English. Agnes Tweedley was recorded as a married woman of 59 years of age, and a housewife.

The 1920 census for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, recorded 'Augnes Tweedley' living at 6351 Buist Avenue with her husband, two of her daughters, and with a son and grandchildren all around. 13 17


Agnes married Samuel QUIGLEY (DNA Link), son of Patrick QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Margaret GEORGE (DNA Linked), on 21 May 1880 in 89 Marshall Street, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Samuel QUIGLEY (DNA Link) was born on 15 October 1854 in Old or New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland 18 19, baptised on 10 December 1854 in St Margaret's RC Church, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland,19 died on 12 April 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA 20 and was buried on 14 April 1929 in Oakgrove Cemetery, Springfield, Massachusetts, USA 20.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was performed after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland by Alexander Harper, minister. The witnesses were David Morton and Mary Kennedy.

Samuel Tweedley was an unmarried man of 24 years, a coal miner.

Agnes Rate was an unmarried woman, working as a domestic servant and was aged 18 years.

Both resided in Marshall Street, Wishaw.

The marriage was registered at Wishaw on 25 May 1880 1
