Sarah was recorded by the 1901 census for Hamilton in Lanarkshire. She was the youngest of her family at that time, aged 2 years. She had been born in Hamilton.

The 1911 census for Motherwell recorded Sarah Tweedley, aged 12 years and born in Hamilton, living with her family at 97b Airbles Road.

In the ship manifest of the SS Columbia sailing from Glasgow Scotland on 27 December 1919 were recorded the names of Samuel, Agnes and Sarah Tweedley bound for New York, where they arrived on 6 January 1920. Their ultimate destination was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All were Scots of British nationality, who had been living in Motherwell. All could read and write and all spoke English. Sarah Tweedley was recorded as a single woman of 20 years of age. 'House duties' was noted for her occupation.

In 1920 the U.S. Census for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania recorded Sara Tweedley living with her parents, her sister, brother in law and nephew at 6351 Buist Avenue. Sara had immigrated to the USA in 1919 and her age was recorded in 1920 as 21 years. She was single. No occupation was noted.
