  General Notes:

The birth certificate of Peter Twedley [sic] recorded him as the son of Samuel Twedley, coal miner, and Agnes Rate who had been married at Cambusnethan om 17 May 1880. Samuel Twedley, the father, gave notice of the birth before the registrar at Hamilton on 1 February 1881.

Peter Tweedley was 2 months old when he was recorded by the 1881 census living at his grandparents' home at 162 Main Street, Wishaw, Lanarkshire.

Peter Tweedley was recorded as a single man aged 20 years by the 1901 census for Hamilton, Lanarkshire. He worked as a railway engine cleaner. His birthplace was Hamilton.

In 1905 Peter Tweedley signed as the informant of the birth of his daughter Agnes who died as a baby. He was also the informant in 1907 of the birth of another daughter Agnes Rait Tweedley, in which he was recorded as living at 97 Airbles Street Motherwell, and as being by occupation an "Electric Arc Lamp Trimmer". The same address and occupation were noted in his son William's birth certificate of 1909.

In 1936 when his daughter Agnes Rait Tweedley married Peter Tweedley was recorded as a coal miner.

In his son Samuel's marriage certificate of 1945, Peter Tweedley was recorded as a coal miner. 1 2 6 8 9 10 11 12


Peter married Agnes HENDERSON, daughter of William HENDERSON and Agnes RUSSELL, on 3 November 1905 in Masonic Hall, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Agnes HENDERSON was born on 12 May 1885 in 1 Logan's Rows, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland 13 and died after 16 July 1945 in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland 8 9.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was performed after banns according to the forms or the Church of Scotland.

Peter Tweedley was aged 24 years when he married. A bachelor, he worked as an arc lamp trimmer. His usual residence was noted as 95 Airbles Street Motherwell. Both of his parents were alive.

Agnes Henderson, also unmarried, was 20 years of age. She lived at 127 Caledonian Street Motherwell. Her father was deceased and her mother still living.

The minister was James Gilliard. On of the witneses was James Tweedley; the other Agnes ---- whose surname is illegible. The marriage was registered on 7 November 1905 in Dalziel parish, George Sneddon being the registrar.
