   Cause of her death was carcinoma of head of pancreas with secondaries of approximately 5 months' duration.

  General Notes:

Rebecca was most likely named after her maternal great grandmother Rebecca Reid married to Samuel George. She was the second daughter of that name born to Samuel and Agnes Tweedley.

Rebecca Tweedley was 6 years old in her 1901 census record. She was a scholar, living with her parents and family at 40 Duke Street Hamilton, Lanarkshire, the town where she was born.

The 1911 census for Motherwell recorded Rebecca Tweedley, aged 16 years and born in Hamilton, living with her family at 97b Airbles Road.

In September 1916 Rebecca was a domestic servant in Motherwell.

Rebecca died in the Royal Infirmary Glasgow in 1950. Her usual residence was noted in her death certificate as 54 Catherine Street Motherwell. She was aged 55 years. Both of her parents were deceased by then. 2 5 6 7

  Medical Notes:

Additional causes noted were terminal endocarditis with cerebral embolus of 7 days' duration, and ulcerative colitis over 20 years.

John P. Masterton MB ChB certified the causes of death.

The widower, James MacKay, who was present where the death occurred, notified the registrar at Glasgow, W. Scott, on 1 December 1950.

Rebecca married James MACKAY, son of James MACKAY and Elizabeth WHYTE, on 13 September 1916 in Young Men's Institute, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (James MACKAY was born 30 November 1888 at 11.50 pm in Alpin Street, Dalbeattie, Kircudbrightshire, Scotland 1 9 and died after 1 December 1950.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was conducted according to the forms of the established Church of Scotland. The solemnising minister was D. McDonald B.D., Minister of South Dalziel. The witnesses were Charles Stewart and Jeannie Scott.

The bride, Rebecca, was aged 21 years and worked as a"Domestic Servant (Cook)". She was marrying for the first time. Her usual residence at the time was 10 Thistle Street, Motherwell.

The groom, James, was an unmarried man of 27 years. He worked as a grocery manager and was a Private in the 3rd Battalion of the HLI, stationed at Malleny Camp, Currie.

Both bride and groom and witnesses signed the register.

The marriage was registered at Motherwell on 16 September 1916. 1
