Cause of her death was carcinoma of the large bowel: obstruction;ethyl chloride gas oxygen ether failure.5

General Notes:
When Margaret Kain was born in January 1887, it was a neighbour who had been present where the birth occurred who was the informant of her birth before the registrar. The neighbour was G Millar of 70 Ann Street who gave notice on 3 February 1887.
Margaret Kane married William Rattray in 1906. As the marriage certificate and marriage notes show, he was recorded as a sugarhouse labourer who stated at the time of marriage that he was a bachelor. However, as the Register of Corrected Entries shows, there took place a trial on 24 March 1909, at Greenock, where William Rattray was convicted of the crime of bigamy. His marriage with Margaret Kane had not been a legal one, his first wife still being alive. Margaret Kane, therefore, found herself in a situation were her marriage being declared void, she was again a single woman and free to marry. This explains why, when she married John McCormick in 1913, the marriage certificate recorded her as a 'spinster'. On the marriage certificate of Margaret Kain and William Rattray of 1906, there is now a little official stamp on the top left of the certificate, near the date, with the word 'Bigamy' entered in the centre.
In 1912 Catherine Ashcroft McCormick's birth certificate recorded her mother Margaret as a domestic servant.
In the 1940 marriage certificate of her son William Fulton Rattray, Margaret was recorded as 'Margaret Rattray now McCormick MS Kane'.
Margaret McCormick died in January 1948 just before her birthday. She was recorded as 60 years old. Her death certificate recorded that she was married (1) to William Rattray sugar house worker and (2) to John McCormick general labourer. Both of her parents were deceased. She died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, but her usual residence was at 182 Allander Street Glasgow. 4 5 7 8

BIGAMY
Bigamy was more common than has been thought. It has been called 'Poor Man's Divorce'. At the turn of the 20th century the legal process of divorce was an onerous one, available mainly to the wealthy because of the cost of lawyers and the time needed to see an Act through Parliament. Blame was an integral part of the process to dissolve a legal marriage, and for the ordinary person this may not have been acceptable, let alone accessible. Consequently, there were many occasions when people just took things into their own hands and hoped not to get caught, and often they succeeded, especially if their partner also wanted to end the marriage.

Margaret's son, D. McCormick, of 132 Allander Street gave notice of his mother's death before the registrar at Glasgow on 9 January 1948.

Margaret married William RATTRAY, son of William RATTRAY and Esther CHARNLEY, on 3 April 1906 in 1 Houston Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (William RATTRAY was born 4 December 1877 at 1.30 pm in 526 Rutherglen Road, Glasgow, Scotland and died 3 October 1943 at 9.30 am in 35 Netherhill Crescent, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland 9.). The cause of his death was carcinoma of the rectum.5

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The minister was David S. Peters and the witnesses Samuel Kane and Annie Kane.
The bridegroom was 27 years old and worked as a sugarhouse labourer. He was a single man who lived at 18 Crawford Street Greenock. His mother was deceased.
Margaret Kane was a domestic servant of 19 years of age. She too lived at 18 Crawford Street and was single. Her father was deceased.
The marriage was registered on 5 April 1906. 1
Margaret next married John McCORMICK, son of John McCORMICK and Ellen HANIGAN, on 12 August 1913 in St Mirren's RC Church, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.2 (John McCORMICK was born 2 February 1882 at 0.40 pm in 20 Water Street, Milton, Glasgow, Scotland and died 9 October 1963 at 9.40 am in 657 Edgefauld Road, Glasgow, Scotland.). The cause of his death was arterio sclerotic heart disease, right hemiplegia, broncho pneumonia over 20 days and infected bed sores over 12 months..5

The bridegroom was an unmarried man of 31 years of age who was a labourer by occupation. He lived at 24 New Smithhills, Paisley. His father was deceased.
The bride was unmarried and aged 25 years. She was a domestic servant who lived at the same address as the bridegroom. Her father was deceased.
The marriage was registered on 15 August 1913 at Paisley.
