  General Notes:

Catherine Ashcroft McCormick's birth certificate records that both her father and her mother were informants of her birth, both signing the register on 20 November 1912 at Paisley as 'M Kane mother' and 'Jno. McCormick father'. Her father's occupation was noted as general labourer and her mother's as domestic servant.

When Catherine died in 1978 her recorded age at death was 65 years. She died in her own home. Her husband was retired and her parents both deceased. 2 3 6

J. W. Scott was the doctor who certified Catherine's death.

Catherine's son, Robert, of 46 Willowdale Crescent Garrowhill, was the informant of her death before the registrar at Baillieston, John B. Sharp, on 11 January 1978. 3


Catherine married Cornelius McColl SMITH, son of Robert SMITH and Mary Ann DONALDSON, on 4 July 1942 in St Teresa's RC Church, Possilpark, Glasgow, Scotland. (Cornelius McColl SMITH was born 2 February 1910 at 6.00 am in 58 Buchanan Street, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 7, baptised on 5 February 1910 in St Bridget's RC Church, Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland,7 died on 13 August 1979 in Baillieston, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 and was buried in St Peter's RC Cemetery, Dalbeth, Glasgow, Scotland 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

A registrar's certificate of notice of intended marriage, issued on 20 June 1942 in the district of Possilpark, is still extant for Catherine Ashcroft McCormick. The details of it are identical to those noted below from the marriage certificate. On the same date was issued a similar notice for Cornelius Smith from Old Monkland Western District in the county of Lanark.

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father Michael McCarthy of St Teresa's Possilpark. The witnesses were Thomas Smith of 127 Robertson Terrace Baillieston, and Helen McCormick of 182 Allander Street Glasgow.

The bridegroom was an unmarried man of 32 years of age who was a motor lorry driver. He lived at 127 Robertson Terrace Baillieston. His father was retired and his mother was deceased.

The bride was unmarried and aged 29 years. She was a munition worker who lived at 182 Allander Street Glasgow. 8 9 10
