General Notes:
Ellen Hanigan, lawful daughter of William Hanigan and Isabella McKenny, was baptised in December 1849 by Charles Reid. One sponsor was recorded: Ellen Williams.
1871 Census:
Ellen Hannigan was a lodger in the household of Ann McCormick, an unmarried woman aged 45 years who had been born in Ireland, and who lived at 237 South Wellington Street, Glasgow. Ellen was aged 22 years and had been born in Provanhaw Glasgow. She was a cotton mill worker. Ann McCormick was a cotton worker. Living in the household was a third woman, Elizabeth McMaster, the widowed sister of Ann McCormick. She too was Irish born and was aged 35 years. She was a worker in a tobacco factory. Their living quarters had one windowed room.
Note: these two women with whom Ellen was living were in fact aunts of the man she was later to marry.
Helen McCormick, widow of John McCormick and who had been present where he died, gave notice of John's death before the registrar at Glasgow on 22 February 1908. She made her X mark.
According to her death certificate in 1923, Ellen McCormick, widow of John McCormick tobacco spinner, died aged 74 years on 9 April 1923. Her parents were already deceased. 2 4

Ellen's son, John McCormick, of 65 Bishop Street, Port Dundas, Glasgow, gave notice of her death before the registrar at Glasgow on 10 April 1923. 2
Ellen married John McCORMICK, son of Hugh McCORMICK and Susan HARRIS, on 23 June 1873 in St Francis RC Church, Cumberland Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (John McCORMICK was born about 1850 in Glasgow, Scotland 7 and died 21 February 1908 at 4.20 pm in Eastern District Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was cardiac degeneration, dropsy and cardiac failure.2
Marriage Notes:
The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Fr Gomain Peeters of St Francis' Chapel. The witnesses were James McDivit and Catherine McCormick.
John McCormick, who made his X mark, was a journeyman tobacco spinner. He was a single man of 23 years of age. He lived at 9 South Wellington Lane. Both of his parents were deceased.
Helen Hannigant (sic) also made her X mark. She was 24 years of age and lived at the same address as the bridegroom. She was unmarried and worked as a cotton mill fliper (sic). Helen's father was deceased.
The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 27 June 1873. 1
