John McCormick, Hugh McCormick's son, who lived at 32 Rose Street Hutchesontown, gave notice of his father's death on 2 March 1868 before the registrar at Glasgow.
Census 1871:
John McCormick, tobacco spinner, aged 20 years and born in Glasgow, was recorded as a lodger in a household at number 15 Commercial Road in the parish of Govan, Glasgow. Another lodger sharing the household with him was James Main, Glasgow born, 28 years old, who was an agricultural labourer by occupation. Their quarters had one windowed room.
1881: Census:
John and Hellen McCormick and their three children William, Hugh, and Jane, were living at 20 Water Street in the Milton district of Glasgow. John was a tobacco spinner, aged 31 years, whose birthplace was Glasgow. Hellen had been born in Provan Hall, Lanarkshire, and was 32 years old. Their children were all born in Glasgow, and were aged 7, 5 and 2 years respectively. William and Hugh were at school.
In 1884, John, a journeyman tobacco spinner, was the informant of the birth of his son, also John. He gave notice before the registrar at Glasgow on 4 February 1882.
1891 Census:
The household of which John McCormick was the head, living at 9 Thomson Lane in Barony parish Glasgow, comprised himself, his wife Ellen, and their three children Hugh, aged 15 years, Jane, aged 12 years, and John, aged 9 years. John McCormick was recorded as 41 years and his wife as 42 years. John senior and his son Hugh were working as tobacco spinners, and the other two children were at school. All of the family had been born in Glasgow. Their home had two windowed rooms.
1901 Census
John McCormick, aged 51 years and a tobacco spinner by trade, was the head of a household living at 3 Thomson Lane, that comprised his wife Ellen, aged 52 years, his son William, daughter in law Mary, and grandchildren Ellen and Sarah. William and Mary were 27 years old, Ellen was 7 years, and Sarah 5 years. William worked as a general labourer. All members of the household had been born in Glasgow. There were two windowed rooms in the dwelling. It should be noted that Hugh, Jane and John McCormick were no longer resident with their parents.
John McCormick senior died in 1908 in hospital. His death certificate recorded that he was 57 years old and had worked as a tobacco spinner. He was married to Helen Hannigan and lived at 107 Green Street Calton Glasgow. Both of his parents were deceased.
John McCormick was a tobacco spinner according to the marriage certificate of his son John in August 1913. He was deceased by that date.
John's son, also John McCormick, died in 1963. In his death certificate his father was recorded as a 'Tobacco Factory Worker (deceased)'. 2 4 5

Helen McCormick, widow of the deceased who had been present where he died, gave notice of John's death before the registrar at Glasgow on 22 February 1908. She made her X mark. 4
John married Ellen HANIGAN, daughter of William HANNAGIN and Isabella McKENNA, on 23 June 1873 in St Francis RC Church, Cumberland Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Ellen HANIGAN was born on 28 December 1848 in Provan Hall, Shettleston, Glasgow, Scotland, baptised on 11 December 1849 in St Mary's RC Church, Abercromby Street, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland and died 9 April 1923 at 10.10 pm in 16 Charlotte Street, Port Dundas, Glasgow, Scotland 7.). The cause of her death was bronchitis and passive congestion of the lungs.4
Marriage Notes:
The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Fr Gomain Peeters of St Francis' Chapel. The witnesses were James McDivit and Catherine McCormick.
John McCormick, who made his X mark, was a journeyman tobacco spinner. He was a single man of 23 years of age. He lived at 9 South Wellington Lane. Both of his parents were deceased.
Helen Hannigant (sic) also made her X mark. She was 24 years of age and lived at the same address as the bridegroom. She was unmarried and worked as a cotton mill fliper (sic). Helen's father was deceased.
The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 27 June 1873. 1
