  • Born: About 1825
  • Marriage (1): MORTON, Jane
  • Died: Before 1895

  General Notes:

A birth record for 1865 published in the IGI on the Family Search website, recorded Samuel Bothwell and Jane Morton as the parents of George Bothwell. The place of birth was Carlingford, county Louth, Ireland.

In Griffiths Valuation 1848-1864 of Ireland, in the Valuation of Tenements documents for Northern Ireland, a Samuel Bothwell is recorded in the parish of Carlingford, Willville townland, in County Louth, as an occupier, and the immediate lessor is Eliza C. Brabazon. The description of the tenement is 'House and Land'. The area is just over 13 acres, and further information is given of the valuation of land and property.

When his daughter Mary Jane married in 1880, she married in County Derry, rather than in Louth. It is not known why that was. Her occupation was that of servant. She may therefore have been living in at her employers home, or her family may have moved by that time to County Derry. In her marriage record 'Somerset' is noted as the address of the woman marrying and not necessarily her own family's address. Her father, however, is recorded as a farmer. The denomination for both parties to the marriage was recorded as Church of Ireland.

In the 1895 marriage certificate of his daughter, Jane, Samuel was recorded as a farmer. He was deceased by then.

In the 1925 death certificate of his daughter Jane Fulton, Samuel Bothwell was recorded as a farmer. 1 2 3 4

  Research Notes:

The 1901 and 1911 census of Ireland show Bothwells still living in Willville.

Samuel married Jane MORTON. (Jane MORTON was born about 1825 and died possibly before 1880.)
