John married Elizabeth CAMPBELL, daughter of Colin CAMPBELL 3rd Earl of Argyll and Jean GORDON Countess of Argyll, before 6 August 1546.¹ (Elizabeth CAMPBELL was born about 1508 and died before 15 May 1548 ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (John Gordon) married, first, before 6 August 1546, Elizabeth Campbell, only daughter of Colin, third Earl of Argyll, and widow of James, Earl of Moray, who had died on 12 June 1544. Through her he acquired an interest in the earldom of Moray, and later obtained a lease of that and her other jointure lands. She died, without issue to the Earl, before 15 May 1548."

John next married Helenor STEWART, daughter of John STEWART 3rd Earl of Lennox and Elizabeth(2) STEWART, 15 April 1549(papal dispensation).^{1 2} (Helenor STEWART was born about 1520 and died before 25 November 1564 ¹.)

"William .... married Elenor or Helen Stewart, only daughter of John, third Earl of Lennox, who survived him .... and married, secondly, in August 1548, John, Earl of Sutherland."

".... about 6 August 1548, he (John Gordon) married, secondly, Helenor Stewart, daughter of John, Earl of Lennox, widow of William Hay, sixth Earl of Erroll. They had a papal dispensation on 15 April 1549. She died shortly before 25 November 1564...."

John next married Marion SETON, daughter of George SETON 6th of that Ilk, 4th Lord Seton and Elizabeth HAY, after 1564.¹ (Marion SETON was born about 1528 and died on 23 June 1567 in Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Scotland ⁴.). The cause of her death was poisoning.

"Marion .... was married .... secondly, as third wife, without issue, to John, tenth Earl of Sutherland."
