Elizabeth married James STEWART Earl of Moray, Lieutenenat-General of Scotland, son of James IV STEWART King of Scots and Janet KENNEDY, about 24 August 1529(charter).1 (James STEWART Earl of Moray, Lieutenenat-General of Scotland was born about 1499(1500) 1 3 and died on 12 June 1544 1 2 3.) Marriage Notes: "James Stewart (son of Janet Kennedy, daughter of John, second Lord Kennedy). Born about 1499, he was created Earl of Moray in 1501, and in 1535 became Lieutenant-General of the kingdom. He married Lady Elizabeth Campbell, only daughter of Colin, third Earl of Argyle, and died 12 June 1544, leaving a daughter." Elizabeth next married John GORDON 11th Earl of Sutherland,'the Good Earl John', son of Alexander GORDON Master of Sutherland and Janet STEWART, before 6 August 1546.2 (John GORDON 11th Earl of Sutherland,'the Good Earl John' was born about 1522 and died on 23 June 1567 in Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Scotland 2.) Marriage Notes: "He (John Gordon) married, first, before 6 August 1546, Elizabeth Campbell, only daughter of Colin, third Earl of Argyll, and widow of James, Earl of Moray, who had died on 12 June 1544. Through her he acquired an interest in the earldom of Moray, and later obtained a lease of that and her other jointure lands. She died, without issue to the Earl, before 15 May 1548." |
