Alexander married Beatrix SINCLAIR, daughter of George SINCLAIR 4th Earl of Caithness and Elizabeth GRAHAM, about 1566.¹ The marriage ended in divorced 30 june 1572. (Beatrix SINCLAIR was born about 1550.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Barbara, or Beatrix, married when thirty-two to Alexander, eleventh Earl of Sutherland, then a youth of fifteen." He divorced her when he came of age."

Alexander next married Jane GORDON, daughter of George GORDON 4th Earl of Huntly and Elizabeth KEITH Countess of Huntly, on 13 December 1573 in Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^{2 3 4} (Jane GORDON was born about 1547, died on 14 May 1629 in Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland, Scotland ^{2 3} and was buried in 1629 in Dornoch cathedral, Sutherland, Scotland ³.)
