Elizabeth married Gilbert LAUDER of Balbardy and Whitslaid, Sheriff Depute of Berwickshire, son of Gilbert LAUDER of Balbardie, Bailie and Burgess of Edinburgh and Isobel MAUCHANE, by 27 January 1556 (charter).¹ (Gilbert LAUDER of Balbardy and Whitslaid, Sheriff Depute of Berwickshire was born about 1535 and died on 30 November 1587 ².)

"In a transcript of a charter (dated 27th January 1556 is a Letter of Tack [lease] whereby William Lauder of Haltoun in implementation of a Contract of Marriage between him and his sister-german [this] Elizabeth Lauder on the one part, and Gilbert Lauder of Balbardy with consent of his curators on the other part, etc.[¹National Records of Scotland, Edinburgh, ref: RH6/1665.]

Elizabeth (called Isobell) is mentioned as her husband's 'relict' in a Privy Council entry dated 31st May 1591[²Masson, David, LL.D., editor, The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, vol.iv, H.M. General Register House, Edinburgh, 1881, p.630] and again (as Elizabeth) on 25th December 1599.[³Masson, David, LL.D., editor, The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, vol.vi, H.M.
