Janet married Sir Alexander LAUDER of Haltoun, son of Sir William LAUDER of Haltoun and Agnes HENDERSON 'of Fordell', by 28 February 1534(charter).1 (Sir Alexander LAUDER of Haltoun was born about 1514 and died on 10 September 1547 in Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, near Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 3.). The cause of his death was killed in battle.

" 'On 28th February 1534 the King confirmed a feu charter of William Lauder of Haltoun (with the consent of William Lord Borthwick) to his son and heir apparent Alexander Lauder and Jonette Borthwick his spouse, daughter of the said Lord, of the lands of Over-Gogar, Edinburghshire; lands of Newbigging in Lauderdale; lands of Nether Kidstoun in Peebleshire.[2The Great Seal of Scotland number 1367 confirmed at Edinburgh on 28th February 1534.]'
A reversion of three husband lands and a half of Newbigging [91 acres] was granted by Mr David Lauder, Vicar of Earlston, to William Lauder of Haltoun upon the sum of £100, 16 November 1514, subscribed and sealed. Instrument of sasine was then done by the said William Lauder of Hatton to Alexander, his son, and Janet Borthwick his spouse, of the 20 merks lands of Newbigging, 10 April 1534, James Little, priest, notary thereto.[3https://www.rps.ac.uk/search.php?a=fcf&fn=charlesii_trans&id=36625&t=trans] (This Newbigging is slightly north of the Royal Burgh of Lauder.)
Jonette (or Janet) appears to be still living on 17th January 1564/5 when her son William Lauder of Haltoun was granted his deceased father's half of the lands of Newbigging in Lauderdale which lands had been held by his parents in conjunct fee.
