"Following the death of his father and his father's two brothers at the Battle of Flodden, Sir William received Sasines dated 27th October 1513 of all his father's extensive estates, including Haltoun, with its castle, the lands of Northraw and Ratho, Over Gogar with mill etc., and Brownsfield in Edinburgh, the lands of Westhall and Norton; Whitslaid, Newbigging, Rogerlaw, 'Blaksadis' etc., in Berwickshire; East Wormistoun, Over and Nether Kidston, with mill & pertinents, in Peebleshire.[4The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland edited by A.E.J.G. "In the archives is a Procuratory of Resignation by Sir George Lauder of Haltoun, knight, appointing Sir Alexander Lauder of Blyth and others to make resignation for him in the King's hands of his lands, dated 7th January 1512/3, including the lands of Over and Nether Kidstoun, Easter and Wester Wormistoun and the hill called the Grene Meldoun, with the mills and pertinents thereof, and that for new infeftment thereof to be given to [this] William Lauder, his son and heir apparent, and Agnes Hendersoun, his spouse, except the forty acres of the lands in which they are already infeft, dated at Edinburgh. The seal of the granter is still affixed.[2National Records of Scotland ref:GD436/1/16][3The Great Seal of Scotland Vol.ii, 1424-1513 no.3807 dated 29th January 1513/4 this charter was confirmed to William Lauder 'son and heir apparent of Sir George Lauder of Haltoun'.]"
