  Research Notes:

PITMACHIE

"Pitmachie Farmhouse, c.1710. Formerly Pitmachie Inn, now a secluded country farm by a busy main road, formerly buzzing with horses, coaches and travellers. Fourteen horses could be accommodated in the stables (and three coaches in the coach-house), while the human travellers were refreshed in the inn. Honest in squared diorite, it has skewputs and coped chimneys. The stables are tall, two storeys and loft in granite rubble with a lean-to coach house on the east wall. The chaumer (accommodation for hired help) above the stables has now gone.
