  Research Notes:

CAUTION

From this James Home backwards, caution is needed. There are many gaps in the evidence for precise familial links, and much of the 'evidence' is circumstantial, that is to say that it is based on location, generational name patterns and compatible dates. More evidence is being and will besought, and to some extent the links outlined here act as a working hypothesis that structures the search for further information.

Noted events in his life were:

1. Resident: at Westhall, 1709, in Oyne parish. 5 When Christan Holne was baptised in 1709, her father, James, was resident at Westhall, Oyne parish.

2. Resident: in Bridgend, from 1704 until 1707, Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. 5 When William Holme was baptised in 1704 and his sister, Barbara, was baptised in 1707, their father, James, was resident in Bridgend, Oyne parish.

3. No evidence of anyone named Home: Poll Book for Aberdeenshire, Scotland, 1696, Rayne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. 6

4. Resident: in Bridge End, 1696, Oyne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. 2 "James Home, tennent in Bridge End, rent is 40 merks - 11/4 "

5. Resident, from 1678, Rayne parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. 1 3 4 7 We know that James Home (or Hoome) was living in the parish of Rayne in 1678 when he married, and that he was in Rothmaise, in Rayne parish, in 1691 when his daughter Margrat was baptised. Two more children of his are known to have been baptised in in Rayne parish in 1681 and in 1694.
