  General Notes:

In 1841 the census for New Monkland, West Parish, recorded a Patrick McConvill, his wife Bridget and their three children living in the High Street, Airdrie. Patrick McConvill was recorded as being in the age range 25-29 years and had been born in Ireland, as had all of the family. He was a labourer.

According to the marriage certificate of his son Joseph in 1865, Peter was a labourer.

Patrick was a mineral labourer, according to his son Henry's marriage certificate in 1870.

In 1871 the census for Ardrossan parish in Ayrshire recorded Patrick and Bridget McConvel, aged 50 and 48 years of age respectively and both born in Ireland, living in Saltcoats with their daughter Susan aged 13 years, and a daughter Catherine aged 7 years. Both of the girls were born in Ayrshire Susan in Kilbirnie and Catherine in Saltcoats. Patrick was a hawker, by occupation.

Patrick's wife Bridget died in 1897. In her death certificate she was recorded as 'married to Patrick McConvill, hawker'. Patrick was the informant of her death and made his X mark.

In 1901 Patrick McConvil, recorded as a hawker, was recorded by the 1901 census for Ardrossan, Ayrshire, living with his daughter and her five children at 66 Montgomerie Lane. He was recorded as 64 years old and had been born in Ireland.

When Patrick McConville died in 1905 his death certificate recorded him as a 'hawker, widower of Bridget Geddes' [sic]. His age at death was recorded as 80 years. Both of his parents were recorded as deceased, and no names were noted for them.

In 1915 In the death certificate of his son Henry, Patrick McConville was recorded as a "char filler in iron works" and as deceased. 1 3 5 6 7 8 9

  Research Notes:

AGE

The age of 80 years recorded at the time of death may be an underestimate. Even if Patrick overestimated his age in the 1841 census, his eldest child was born in the early 1830s, so a birth year of 1825 is not possible. 1816 would be more feasible, taking the latest year suggested by the age recorded in the 1841 census, making Patrick about 89 or 90 years old when he died.

PARENTS

No parents' names were noted for Patrick in his death certificate. He has been placed in this family on the strength of the Clonallon link as recorded in his children's baptisms. Also, the sponsor at the baptism of John McInearney in 1851 was a Mary McConvil; Patrick's daughter would have been the right age. It is hope that future research will produce more documentary evidence.

  Medical Notes:

William Mackenzie Brown MB CM certified the cause of death.

Katie McBride, daughter of the deceased, of Dimity Street Johnstone, gave notice of her father's death before the registrar at Dalry on 27 March 1905. 1

Patrick married Bridget McGLADE, daughter of John McGADY and DOUGAN. (Bridget McGLADE was born about 1813 in Ireland and died 5 February 1897 at 11.00 am in Vennel Street, Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland 7.). The cause of her death was carcinoma of the stomach over 4 months.1
