Baptisms

"Henry lawful (son of) Patrick McConville & Bridget McGlade (born) 7 May 1845 (baptised) 15 May (Sponsor) Mary Ellison
(signed by priest) Alex Smith"

Henry was recorded by the 1851 census for Old Monkland. He was recorded as aged 5 years and born in Ireland. He, with his brother Joseph, were living with a family called Hunter because, as the note in the entry says, they had been deserted by their father.
Note: The notion of "desertion" was on occasion used to apply to situations where the father had gone to prison, gone off to find work and had not been in touch, or was absent for another reason leaving the family to claim poor relief possibly. The parents had another child in 1857.

The 1861 census for Stevenston in Ayrshire, recorded a Henry McConvall, aged 18 years, who worked as a collier living as a boarder with a family. His birthplace is noted Old Monkland, Lanarkshire. This contradicts the 1851 record but fits the baptism record.

Henry McConville was found dead at 11.30 am on 16 February 1915 at Ballside Quarry, Bellshill, Lanarkshire. His usual address was Muirhead, Denny. He had been a "Coal miner married to first Helen McCormack and second Mary McAnaa". His age at death was 69 years. Both of his parents were recorded as deceased. The informant of his death was a police sergeant, Thomas Murdoch, from Uddingston Police Office. An entry was also made regarding the death in the Register of Corrected Entries, which has not been seen. 1 2 3 4
