  General Notes:

Bridget McConvill was recorded by the 1841 census for New Monkland living on the High Street with her husband, and three children. Her age was in the 30-34 years range and she had been born in Ireland.

A 'Bridget McConvell' was one of the witnesses at the marriage of Bernerd Quine and Margaret Sweeney at St Margaret's RC Chapel Airdrie on 21 August 1851. The other witness was Johanna Crossen.

Bridget was recorded as deceased by the time her son Henry married in 1870. This was not in fact the case, but may represent either some distance between the son and the mother, misinformation, or error.

Bridget died in 1897. In her death certificate she was recorded as 'married to Patrick McConvill, hawker'. Her age at death was recorded as 70 years. Both of her parents were recorded as deceased. 4 8 10

  Research Notes:

AGE

The age of 80 years recorded at the time of death may be an underestimate.

Take Bridget's husband first. Even if Patrick overestimated his age in the 1841 census, his eldest child was born in the early 1830s, so a birth year of 1825 is not possible. 1816 would be more feasible, taking the latest year suggested by the age recorded in the 1841 census, making Patrick about 89 or 90 years old when he died.

Similarly Bridget's age at death in 1897 was recorded as 70 years, making her year of birth about 1827. The argument above pertains to her case too. Her first child, born in early 1830s, suggests that she was born by 1820 at the very latest but probably earlier. The differential in the ages of the couple in the 1841 census suggests Bridget was a little older than Patrick, so a birth year of about 1811 would be likely, taking the latest year suggested by her age as noted in 1841, making her not 70 years old at death but about 85 or 86 years old.

  Medical Notes:

William Sloan MD certified the cause of death.

Patrick McConvill, widower of the deceased who had been present where her death occurred, gave notice of her death before the registrar, William Comrie, at Dalry on 8 February 1897, and made his X mark.

Bridget married Patrick McCONVILLE, son of John McCONVILLE and Sarah HAMMILL. (Patrick McCONVILLE was born about 1814 in Ireland 8 and died 25 March 1905 at 11.50 am in Sickhouse, Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland 5.). The cause of his death was senility.4
