First, he was betrothed in 1492 to Janet, daughter of John, second Lord Kennedy, and, though there appears to have been delay, the facts mentioned below seem to prove there must have been a marriage of some sort between them."

Alexander next married Janet DOUGLAS, daughter of Sir William DOUGLAS 4th of Drumlanrig and Elizabeth CRICHTON.¹ (Janet DOUGLAS was born about 1465.)

"Secondly, he (Sir Alexander Gordon of Lochinvar) married, by Papal dispensation on account of consanguinity, Janet, daughter of Sir William Douglas of Drumlanrig, and widow of William, Master of Somerville."
