Janet married Sir Alexander GORDON of Lochinvar, son of Sir John GORDON of Lochinvar and Kenmure and Annabella BOYD, After 1492(betrothal).1 (Sir Alexander GORDON of Lochinvar was born about 1465 and died on 9 September 1513 in Battle of Flodden Field, Northumberland, England 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Sir Alexander Gordon of Lochinvar) was married twice or three times. First, he was betrothed in 1492 to Janet, daughter of John, second Lord Kennedy, and, though there appears to have been delay, the facts mentioned below seem to prove there must have been a marriage of some sort between them."

from Scots Peerage (vol 5) 1

Janet next married Archibald DOUGLAS 5th Earl of Angus, 'Bell the Cat', son of George DOUGLAS 4th Earl of Angus, 'Red Douglas' and Isabella SIBBALD, about 1498.2 (Archibald DOUGLAS 5th Earl of Angus, 'Bell the Cat' was born about 1449 2 and died about November 1513 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"The fifth Earl of Angus was twice, if not three times, married .... he married, first, before May 1468, Elizabeth Boyd, daughter of Robert, Lord Boyd, who died before 1498, when he married, or was contracted to, Janet Kennedy, daughter of John, Lord Kennedy. On 20 July 1498 the Earl granted to her in token of affection the lands of Braidwood in liferent, and after her decease to the heirs-male born betwixt him and her. In September of same year, also as a mark of affection, he granted to her the barony of Crawford Lindsay for life. In 1531 Janet, Lady Bothwell, founded a prebend in the Collegiate Church of St. Mary in the Fields, Edinburgh, for the benefit of the deceased Earl of Angus, to whom she refers as formerly her husband. It would appear, therefore, that more than a mere contract subsisted betwixt her and the Earl, but she is nowhere styled Countess of Angus, arid she certainly became about 1499 the mistress of King James IV., and was mother of James, Earl of Moray, who died in 1544."

from Scots Peerage (vol 1) 2

Janet had a relationship with James IV STEWART King of Scots, son of James III STEWART King of Scots and Margaret.3 (James IV STEWART King of Scots was born 17 March 1472(1473) 2 and died on 9 September 1513 in Battle of Flodden Field, Northumberland, England 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Bothwell did marry, first, Janet Kennedy, the well-known mistress of James IV."

from Scots Peerage (vol 2) 3

Janet next married Sir John RAMSAY Lord Bothwell (forfeited) by 5 November 1505.3 The marriage ended in annulment. (Sir John RAMSAY Lord Bothwell (forfeited) was born about 1466 and died on 9 September 1513 in Battle of Flodden Field, Northumberland, England 3.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Lord Bothwell is generally said to have married Isobel Cant, but she was the wife of the other John Ramsay alluded to above. Bothwell did marry, first, Janet Kennedy, the well-known mistress of James IV. On 6 November 1505 he, as Sir John Ramsay of Trarinzean, resigned certain subjects in Edinburgh for conjunct infeftment to be given to him and Janet Kennedy, Lady Bothwell, his spouse, and on the 28th of the same month Lady Bothwell appears in Court by Sir John Ramsay, her spouse and procurator. The marriage, if it ever took effect, must have been speedily dissolved, though Janet Kennedy lived for many years afterwards."
