Gilbert married Katherine MAXWELL, daughter of Sir Herbert MAXWELL Lord Maxwell and Daughter HERRIES, about 1440.^{1 2} (Katherine MAXWELL was born about 1415.)

"Gilbert, first Lord Kennedy, frequently attended Parliament, his last appearance there being on 6 March 1478-79. He apparently died soon after that date. He married, first, about 1440, Katherine, daughter of Herbert, first Lord Maxwell ; secondly, Isabel, daughter of Walter Ogilvie of Lintrathen,- widow of Patrick, Lord Glamis, by whom he apparently had no issue. She survived Lord Kennedy, and
died in 1484."
