  General Notes:

Sarah was aged 16 years old when recorded by the 1871 census, living with her family in Chapelhall, in the parish of Bothwell. She had been born in Ireland and was single. No occupation was noted for her, so she may have helped out at home. The family lived East of Biggar Road, in a dwelling that had one room windowed.

In September 1910 Mrs Sarah Ann Sweeney with her husband James, and their sons Patrick, Daniel Joseph and John, arrived in Sydney, New South Wales from Melbourne, Australia as unassisted immigrants aboard the ship Suffolk:

"Name:Mrs Sarah Ann Sweeney
Port of Departure:Melbourne
Port of Arrival:Sydney, New South Wales
Voyage Arrival Date:9 Sep 1910
Vessel Name:Suffolk"

from Unassisted Immigrant Passenger Lists 11

Sarah married James SWEENEY on 1 August 1875 in Rathgory, County Donegal, Ireland.1 (James SWEENEY was born about 1854 in Rosnakill, County Donegal, Ireland 4 6 13.)

  Marriage Notes:

In the 1876 birth certificate of his son Charles Sweeney in Chaplehall, James Sweeney, who notified the child's birth, was recorded as a labourer in an ironworks. His marriage to Sarah McGunnigal was recorded there as having taken place at Rathgory, County Donegal on 1 August 1875. A marriage record has not been found as yet in the Irish records. 1
