In the 1901 census Charles William and Michael are shown as the eldest three sons, with James coming fourth, probably an enumerator's error.

James Sweeney was recorded as a coal miner in the 1906 marriage certificate of his son Michael.

In 1910 James and Mrs Sarah Ann Sweeney, with their sons Patrick, Daniel, Joseph and John, were recorded in the list of passengers arriving on 9 September, aboard the Suffolk of London, in Sydney, New South Wales, from Melbourne, Australia. 1 3 7 8 9 10 11

James married Sarah Ann McGUNNIGAL (DNA Link), daughter of James McGUNNIGAL (DNA Linked) and Margaret HARKIN (DNA Linked), on 1 August 1875 in Rathgory, County Donegal, Ireland.1 (Sarah Ann McGUNNIGAL (DNA Link) was born about 1855 in County Donegal, Ireland,3 4 10 died on 25 October 1924 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand 13 14 and was buried in 1924 in Linwood Cemetery, Linwood, Christchurch City, Canterbury, New Zealand 13.)


  Marriage Notes:

In the 1876 birth certificate of his son Charles Sweeney in Chaplehall, James Sweeney, who notified the child's birth, was recorded as a labourer in an ironworks. His marriage to Sarah McGunnigal was recorded there as having taken place at Rathgory, County Donegal on 1 August 1875. A marriage record has not been found as yet in the Irish records. 1
