  General Notes:

Edward Sweeney emigrated to the USA after the 1 April 1901 when the 1901 UK census was taken, in which he is recorded living with his parents in Chapelhall. Initially he worked as a coal miner. In the 1910 US census he was a boarder. By the 1920 census of the USA he was married, but continued to work in the coal industry. Later, by 1930 he owned his own farm in Milton township in Le Flore county on the eastern border of Oklahoma, where he lived with his wife and their thirteen children. By 1940 he had returned to mining. The four eldest sons living with him were also miners. They lived and worked in McCurtain, a town in Haskell county in the south-east of Oklahoma, where the US census recorded they had lived since at least 1935. Edward was a wage earner but owned his home.

On 27 April 1942, when he registered for the World war II draft, Edward Joseph Sweeney was resident in McCurtain, Haskell, Oklahoma, USA. He was married and worked as a self-employed coal operator in Milton, Oklahoma. he was 6 feet 1inch, and weighed about 178 pounds. He had a light complexion; his eyes were hazel and his hair was red. 4 7 8 12
