Francis was the second child of this name in his family.

In the 1891 census, a son, Francis Rorke, aged 17 years and working as a coal miner, was recorded living with a brother and two sisters at their parents' house in 8 Boness Road, Chapelhall. Francis was recorded as unmarried and was born in the parish of New Monkland.

The 1901 census recorded Francis Rourke [sic], his wife, and their four children living in Boness Road at Chapelhall in the Holytown district of Bothwell parish. Francis was aged 26 years and worked as a coal miner-hewer. His birthplace was at Rawyards in Airdrie, Lanarkshire. Their dwelling had one windowed room.

Francis Rourke was recorded as a coal miner in 1912, in the death certificate of his son and in 1926 in the death certificate of his daughter, in both of which he was noted as the informant.

Frank O'Rourke, son of the deceased, was recorded in his mother Ann Renny's death certificate in 1921 as the informant of the death before the registrar, Gil Hamilton at Holytown on 9 May 1921. Frank's address was also recorded: 90 Main Street, Chapelhall.

In 1926 in the marriage certificate of his son Terence, Francis O'Rourke was recorded as a coal miner. 4 5 6 7 8


Francis married Annie McINTYRE, daughter of Patrick McINTYRE and Sarah McCUSKER, on 1 January 1895 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Annie McINTYRE was born in 1876 in Chapelhall, Holytown district, Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6 and died after 12 February 1926 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was soleminsed after banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church, the celebrant being John Macdonald. The witnesses were Patrick McGinnis and Bridget McLaughlin.

Francis Rourke was single, aged 20 years according to his marriage certificate. He worked as a coal miner and lived at Sneddons land, Chapelhall.

Annie McIntyre was single and 19 years of age. She lived at Briggate, Chapelhall and was a worker in Brickfield.

The marriage was registered in Holytown on 3 January 1895. 1
