  General Notes:

The 1871 census recorded Ann as 28 years, the same age as her husband John. Like him she was born in Ireland.

In the 1891 census Anne was living with her husband and family of four children at 8 Boness Road, Chapelhall. She was aged 48 years and had been born in Ireland.

When Ann died in 1921 her recorded age at death was 75 years, a little low considering the census entries already known. She was the widow of John O'Rourke coalminer and both her parents were already dead. 9

No baptism or birth document has been found for Ann as yet with the names of the parents as recorded on other documents relating to her.

A document that may relate to her, in terms of the age she gave and a general northern Irish background is this one, which has no parents' names and no other useful biographical information:

Norman McFarlane MB ChB certified the cause of death.

Frank O'Rourke, Ann's son who lived at 90 Main Street Chapelhall, gave notice of his mother's death before Gil Hamilton, registrar, at Holytown on 9 May 1921.


Ann married John ROURKE, son of Francis ROURKE (DNA Linked) and Margaret CAMPBELL (DNA Linked), on 29 December 1862 in RC Chapel, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (John ROURKE was baptised on 25 September 1841 in Dungannon RC parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 10 and died 1 September 1906 at 6.20 am in Lauchope Street, Chapelhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland.). The cause of his death was general debility.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. G. McBrearty, Catholic priest, presided. John Barret and Elizabeth Roark [sic] were the witnesses.

John Rourke, who made his X mark, was an unmarried man of 20 years of age, living in Cleland, in Shotts parish. He was a coalminer.

Ann Renny, who mad her X mark, was unmarried, aged 18 years and also of Cleland. She was a domestic servant.

Both sets of parents were living.

The marriage was registered at Wishaw, Cambusnethan parish, on 30 December 1862, Thomas B. Gibson being the signing registrar.
