Jane Harkin was recorded by the 1871 census living with her husband and children at Crofthead, Whitburn, the address being Greenburn. She was recorded as aged 45 years and had been born in Airdrie.

In her death certificate of 1873, Jane Harkins was recorded as being married to John Harkins, and aged 48 years. Both of her parents were deceased. ^{4 6}

John Harkins, husband of Jane, gave notice of her death before the registrar at Whitburn on 11 February 1873 and made his X mark. ⁶

Jane married John HARKIN, son of Mr HARKIN and Mrs HARKIN MS UNKNOWN, in March 1842 in New Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ (John HARKIN was born about 1816 in Ireland ^{4 5} and died after 4 February 1873.)
