  General Notes:

One of the baptismal sponsors for John harkin was Agnes McKillop. The name of the other is slightly unclear, possibly James Mount or Mound.

In 1869 John Harkin was one of the witnesses at the marriage of Francis Harkin to Ann Conway in Bathgate.

John was the eldest offspring recorded in the 1871 Harkin family entry in Crofthead, Whitburn. John was an ironstone miner aged 22 years and unmarried. He had been born in Clelland [sic] Lanarkshire.

The 1881 census recorded John Larkin living at 40 Ann Street in Barony parish Glasgow. He was head of the household that comprised himself, his sister, Catherine, his sister, Mary, and his brother, Patrick. John was aged 32 years and unmarried. His birthplace was noted as Shotts parish. He worked as an iron labourer. 1 2 4 5
