Research Notes:
AGNES and ANN
There are many examples in earlier times where the given name Agnes is rendered as Annas, Anna, Anne or Ann. This may be what has happened here. Agnes appears to be a transliteration of the Spanish Iñez, with the 'g' included to indicate the pronunciation. Where this was not understood or obeyed the name came to resemble the more traditional Anna.
Ann married.
Ann next married James CRAWFORD, son of Joseph CRAWFORD and Ann GARNET, on 11 July 1864 in Carnwath Manse, Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (James CRAWFORD was born about 1844 5.)
Marriage Notes:
The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Alexander Hugh McLean, Minister of the Parish of Carnwath, married the couple. The witnesses were H. S. McNeill and Alexander Massan (? unclear).
James Crawford was a single man, aged 20 years, who worked as a coal miner, and lived in Wilsontown in Carnwath parish. His mother was deceased.
Agnes Feely, who made her X mark, was also single and she was 21 years of age. She lived in Lesmahagow. She worked as a domestic servant.
The marriage was registered at Carnwath on 12 July 1864. 5
