  General Notes:

The child was born of 5 November 1883 and named as Maggie George Allan, the first names being in honour of her maternal grandmother. Mary Allan, Maggie's mother, registered her birth in Edinburgh on 27 November 1883, and made her X mark.

In 1891 the census recorded Mary Alan, a widow and an invalid, living in a dwelling with one windowed room at 95 Muir Street with her son, William aged 10 years, and her daughter Margaret, aged 7 years. Mary was recorded as 30 years of age and born in Galston, Ayrshire. William had been born in London and Margaret in Edinburgh. Both children were at school.

Margaret Allen was recorded living with her mother at 95 Muir Street Hamilton, Lanarkshire, in the 1901 census. She was recorded as 17 years old and her birthplace was Edinburgh. She worked as a confectioner's assistant.

When Margaret George Straiton died in 1925 her death certificate recorded her as aged 41 years and married to James Straiton Coal Miner. Both of her parents were deceased. 2 4 6 9 10

James Straiton, widower of the deceased woman who had been present where she died, informed the registrar at Hamilton on 4th February 1925 of her death. 4


Maggie married James Scott STRAITON, son of William STRAITON and Helen SCOTT, on 27 December 1907 in 95 Whitehill Road, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (James Scott STRAITON was born 1 March 1883 at 11.50 am in Butterdales Cottages, Dornock parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland,11 died 3 February 1959 at 0.50 am in 6 Hardie Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 12 and was buried on 5 February 1959 in West Cemetery, Section F Lair 268, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5.). The cause of his death was asthma, bronchitis and cardiac failure.4


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the United Free Church. The minister was John Gilmour. The witnesses were Nellie Duff and Joseph Beattie.

James Scott Straiton was a bachelor of 24 years, of 95 Whitehill Road, and worked as a coal miner. His parents were both living.

Maggie Allen was also unmarried and aged 24 years, and of 21 Barrack Street. No occupation was noted. Her father was noted as deceased.

The marriage was registered on 30 December 1907 at Hamilton, Gavin Frame being the signing registrar.
