James Scott's birth was notified to the registrar by his mother Helen.

James Straiton was the informant of the birth of his son William in Hamilton in 1908, and of his son James in 1911. He was a coal miner according to the information given on the certificates.

James Straiton was the informant of his mother in law's death in 1918. His address then was 12 Albert Buildings Earnock.

James Straiton, widower of the Margaret George Straiton who had been present where she died, informed the registrar at Hamilton on 4th February 1925 of his wife's death.

James Straiton of 52 Argyle Buildings, Earnock, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar at Hamilton on 4 April 1933.

When James died in 1959 his death certificate named him as "James Straiton (formerly Scott)". He was recorded as "Coal Hewer (retired) Widower of 1st Margaret Allan 2nd Helen Ireland or Watson". James married Maggie George ALLAN, daughter of William George ALLEN and Mary QUIGLEY, on 27 December 1907 in 95 Whitehill Road, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. (Maggie George ALLAN was born 5 November 1883 at 7.00 am in 97 Rose Street, Edinburgh, Scotland,10 11 died 3 February 1925 at 4.50 pm in 52 Argyle Buildings, Earnock, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 7 and was buried on 5 February 1925 in West Cemetery, Section F Lair 268, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was ascites over 3 months.5


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place after banns according to the forms of the United Free Church. The minister was John Gilmour. The witnesses were Nellie Duff and Joseph Beattie.

James Scott Straiton was a bachelor of 24 years, of 95 Whitehill Road, and worked as a coal miner. His parents were both living.

Maggie Allen was also unmarried and aged 24 years, and of 21 Barrack Street. No occupation was noted. Her father was noted as deceased.

The marriage was registered on 30 December 1907 at Hamilton, Gavin Frame being the signing registrar.

James next married Helen IRELAND on 17 June 1927 in The Manse, Burnbank, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Helen IRELAND was born on 26 December 1887 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland,1 died 15 December 1954at 10.30 am in 6 Hardie Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 1 6 12 and was buried on 17 December 1954 in West Cemetery, Section F Lair 855, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was coronary thrombosis and arterio-sclerosis.5


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland. The minister was John Smith Sievwright of Burnbank Parish Church. The witnesses were Joseph Beattie of 56 Albert Bld, Earnock, Burnbank, and Margaret Ireland, 5 Guthrie Street Hamilton.

James Straiton was a coal miner and a widower, aged 44 years, living at 52 Argyle Buildings, Earnock. His mother was deceased.

Helen Ireland or Watson was a widow aged 39 years, of 43 Pollock Street, Hamilton. Her mother was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 18 June 1927. 2
