   Cause of his death was valvular disease of the heart, arterio sclerosis and cardiac failure.2

   Another name for William was WYLIE, William.3

  General Notes:

William Straiton was a locomotive engine driver, according to the marriage certificate of his son, James, in 1907. This was also his occupation in the certificate of James's second marriage in 1927.

When William Straiton died in 1933 his death certificate recorded him as "William Straiton (formerly Wylie) Locomotive Engine Driver Widower of Helen Scott". His age was recorded as 73 years. Only his mother's name was recorded in the certificate, and she was deceased. 2 4

Neil Douglas MB ChB certified the causes of death.

James Straiton of 52 Argyle Buildings, Earnock, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar at Hamilton on 4 April 1933. 2


William married Helen SCOTT, daughter of Unknown and Catherine SCOTT, on 10 August 1883 in Butterdales Cottages, Dornock parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1 (Helen SCOTT was born on 24 December 1859 in Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 1 3 and died between 27 December 1907 and 17 June 1927 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The couple were married by John Anderson, Minister of Dornock parish. The witnesses were Robert Watson and Sarah Irving.

William Straiton was a railway engine stoke. He was a single man aged 24 years and lived in Beckford Street, Hamilton. His mother was deceased.

Helen Scott was a domestic servant and lived at Butterdales Cottages, Dornock. She was 23 years old and unmarried.

The marriage was registered on 11 August 1883 at Dornock. 1
