In 1871 William Allen, aged 17 years and born in St Pancras, was recorded living with his father, his stepmother and his two infant half sisters, Martha and Mary, at 144 Ossulston Street. he worked as a porter in the railway.

In 1880 when his son William George was vaccinated against smallpox, William was recorded as a "Lamp cleaner N.W.R."

W. G. Allen was recorded in the 1881 census for St Pancras, Middlesex, living at 13 Netley Street with his wife and 10 month old son. He was aged 25 years and had been born in St Pancras. He worked as a railway servant.

In his daughter Maggie's birth certificate of 1883, her father is recorded as "William George Allan Railway Lampman".

William's daughter, Maggie, married in 1907. In her marriage certificate, William was recorded as 'William Allen Private 90th Foot deceased'.

William George Allen was recorded as a foot soldier and deceased in the 1910 marriage certificate of his son William.

In 1918, William's wife, Mary, died. William Allan, who survived her, was recorded in her death certificate as being a railway lampman.

In the death certificate of his son William, in 1923, William was recorded as "William George Allen Soldier Deceased".

In his daughter Maggie's death certificate of 1925, William George Allan [sic] was recorded as "Lamp Lighter (Deceased)". ^{3 6 8 10 11 13}

William George Allen's great grand-daughter has still in her possession William George Allen's war medals, and the little bible he used when he was a soldier in the 90th regiment of foot.

William married Mary QUIGLEY, daughter of Patrick QUIGLY (DNA Linked) and Margaret GEORGE (DNA Linked), on 24 April 1879 in 7 Saffron Place, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland.^{1 2} (Mary QUIGLEY was born 9 July 1860 at 7.50 pm in Holmes Colliery, Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland ^{14 15}, baptised on 7 September 1860 in St Joseph's RC Parish, Kilmarnock, Scotland,¹⁶ died on 6 December 1918 in 21 Barrack Street, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland and was buried on 9 December 1918 in West Cemetery, Section F Lair 268, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland ¹⁷.). The cause of her death was cardiac valvular disease and angina.

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was performed after banns and according to the forms of the United Presbyterian Church. Thomas Simpson Trench, minister of the United Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, married the couple. The witnesses were S. Horsburgh and Mary Gracey.

W. G. Allan was a Private in the 90th Foot. He was aged 23 years and unmarried. His residence was noted as the Barracks in Hamilton.

Mary Teedly [sic], who made her X mark, was resident at 17 Ann Street, Burnbank, Hamilton. She was unmarried and was a domestic servant. Her age was recorded as 18 years.

The marriage was registered at Hamilton on 5 May 1879, William Murray being the signing registrar.

Note: Mary Gracey, witness, may have been the Mary Gracie who married the bride's younger brother, Arthur.

In their daughter Maggie's birth certificate of 1883, the informant of which was Mary Allan her mother, the parents' marriage date and place was noted as "1879 April 24 Edinburgh". ^{1 2 11}
