  General Notes:

The 1851 census for Abbey Parish, Paisley, recorded Thomas head of a household of three, himself, his wife and his son. The family lived at 31 Thread Street. Thomas was a handloom weaver, was 28 years old, and had been born in Paisley.

In 1861 Thomas Cumming headed a household of six people living at 27 Thread Street. As well as himself and his wife, the census recorded Thomas as having three children of his own and one adopted daughter. Thomas was recorded as 37 years of age and had been born in Paisley. He was a former shawl weaver.

Thomas Cummings [sic] was 43 years old when recorded by the census of that year. Born in Paisley, he lived in 20 Orr Street, Bridgeton in Glasgow Calton, Lanarkshire, with his wife Ellen and their two daughters Frances and Jane. He worked as an engine fireman.


Thomas married Helen CAIRNEY, daughter of Cornelius CAIRNEY and Mary QUIGLY, on 6 November 1846 in High Church Parish, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. (Helen CAIRNEY was born on 26 February 1824 in Renfrewshire, Scotland 1 and was baptised on 10 April 1824 in St Mirin's RC Parish, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.)
