In 1861 Thomas Cumming headed a household of six people living at 27 Thread Street. As well as himself and his wife, the census recorded Thomas as having three children of his own and one adopted daughter. Maggie Cumming was the middle daughter of the Cummings' own children. She was 5 years old and had been born in Paisley.
