QUIGLY, Mary 2 3 4

  • Born: About 1789, Ireland
  • Marriage (1): CAIN, Hugh
  • Marriage (2): CAIRNEY, Cornelius on 19 December 1823 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland 1

Another name for Mary was QUIGLEY, Mary.

  General Notes:

As yet no other evidence has been found about Mary beyond her marriage dates and her children's baptisms. She was not listed with her second husband in the 1841 census, and her husband was certainly a widower by the 1851 census.

The Roman Catholic records for St Mirin's parish in Paisley record under "Obituary" a Mary Quigly beside the date 25 September 1830. It is not clear if the date represents the date of death or of burial. There is not enough information to consider with certainty that it this Mary Quigly, but circumstantially it is a distinct possibility. 3 5 6

Mary married Hugh CAIN. (Hugh CAIN was born about 1785.)

Mary next married Cornelius CAIRNEY on 19 December 1823 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 (Cornelius CAIRNEY was born about 1800 in Dublin, Ireland 5 7.)

  Marriage Notes:

The Old Parish Marriage Register of High Church Parish Paisley records in Proclamations under 'Karney' for the 30 November 1823 (a Sunday). 'Cornelius Karney and Mary Quigly both in this parish'.

These were the start of the banns for the marriage, called in the Established Church in High Church Parish Paisley. The excerpt from the OPR ends 'Married 19th December by Reverend William Cavan Catholic'. In the right hand column reads '3 days' and '1 (shilling)'.

A search has been made in the Roman Catholic registers for this marriage but none has been found so far. 4 8
