  General Notes:

In 1881 Samuel George was recorded by the census for Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, as the head of the household living at 50 Burnhill Street. With him lived his wife and four children. Samuel's birthplace was Kilmarnock in Ayrshire and his age was recorded by the census as 29 years. He worked as a railway guard.

Samuel George's death certificate of 1924 recorded him as a seaman, married to Agnes Bell, and aged 74 years. His parents were deceased. 7 8

J.M.Thomson certified the cause of death.

James Wood, occupier, gave notice of Samuel's death before the registrar, John E. Russell, at Airdrie on 2 December 1924.


Samuel married Agnes BELL, daughter of William BELL and Mary BLACK, on 23 August 1872 in Newmains, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Agnes BELL was born in 1849 in Clarkston, New Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland,7 died on 29 December 1927 in Queensland, Australia 2 8 and was buried on 30 December 1927 in Dutton Park Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 9.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated at Newmains according to the traditions of the Free Church of Scotland. P. G. Millar was the officiating minister. The witnesses were John McRae and Mary Bell.

Samuel George, a railway guard, of Newmains, was a bachelor of 19. His father was dead and his mother living.

Agness Bell, a domestic servant, also of Newmains, was an unmarried woman of 22. Both of her parents were living.

The marriage was registered at Wishaw on August 27 1872, Thomas Steele being assistant registrar. 1
