   Cause of her death was puerperal fever over 13 days.

   Other names for Martha were QUIGLEY, Martha, ROSS, Margaret,5 TWEEDLIE, Martha and TWEEDLY, Martha.

  General Notes:

The 1851 census records James and Martha Quigley and their four children, aged from 7 years to 1 year, living in the new suburb of Laurieston, south of the river Clyde. Martha was aged 28 years.

Martha gave birth to her daughter Elizabeth in 1855 in Calton at 35 King Street. In Elizabeth's birth certificate it was recorded that Martha and James Quigley had two boys and three girls living; Elizabeth was their sixth child. Martha was aged 32 years and had been born in County Derry, Ireland.

The birth of Martha's last child, Margaret, took place on 2 July 1858. In the child's birth certificate her mother was recorded as Margaret Ross.

Martha's death certificate of 1858 described her as 'wife of a hammerman'. Her recorded age was 37 years. Her parents were both alive. 1 4 6 7 8

  Medical Notes:

William Hunter, surgeon, certified the cause of death. He saw the deceased on 12 July 1858.

Her burial place was not certified.

Her widower, James Quigley, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of her death before R. C. Hamilton, registrar, at Glasgow on 13 July 1858, and made his X mark. 4


Martha married James QUIGLEY, son of Edward QUIGLEY and Mary CRAIG, in 1843 in County Derry, Ireland.1 (James QUIGLEY was born about 1820 in Coleraine, County Derry, Ireland 1 and died 4 December 1861 at 11.00 pm in Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland 9.). The cause of his death was typhus over 14 days.
