  General Notes:

Martha was a child of the family included in the application for parish relief by Jean Porter in 1861. She was aged 7 and a half years and was born in 35 King Street.

An entry in the 1871 census for Calton Glasgow lists a Sarah Quigly and a Martha Quigly, Sarah as the elder sister and Martha as the younger. The two women were living at 240 Gallowgate. The entry listed Sarah as the head of the household, born Glasgow, aged 34 years and unmarried. She worked as a blacker. Martha, her sister it was recorded, was also unmarried, also born Glasgow and also worked as a blacker. She was 18 years old. ^{2 3}

Martha married John STIRLING on 30 August 1875 in 7 Reidvale Street, Glasgow, Scotland. (John STIRLING was born about 1851.)

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Congregational Churches. The minister was Alex Crail. The witnesses were William Anderson and Mary McLean.

John Stirling was a 24 year old bachelor. His address was 14 Tobago Street Glasgow and he worked as a carter. Both of his parents were deceased.

Martha Tweedly was a thread mill worker. She was unmarried and aged 22 years. Her address was 66 Tobago Street Glasgow. Her parents, too, were deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 7 September 1875, Peter Ferguson being the signing registrar.
