  General Notes:

Edward was recorded by the 1851 census living with his parents and brother and sisters in the Laurieston suburb of Glasgow, in Govan parish. He was aged 7 years.

Edward was mentioned in the application by Jean Porter for parochial relief in December 1861 in Barony parish. He was recorded as aged 17 years, born in Ireland, working as a hammerman for 12/- a week.

In 1866 Edward's sister Mary married. The witnesses were an Edward and a Helen Tweedly, possibly this Edward and his wife. Interestingly for surname students, their surname had originally been written as 'Tweedlie' by the registrar, and in both cases this form was scored out and replaced by 'Tweedly'.

In the record of marriage of Thomas Tweedly in December 1881 his father is recorded as "Edward Tweedly Blacksmith (Journeyman)".

Bruce Tweedly, in an e-mail in 2001, provided information that Edward died in an boiler explosion on a ship on the Clyde, leaving seven children orphans. Some of the children went to Canada and some remained in Scotland 4 5 6 7

Edward married Helen DARROCH on 21 April 1863 in 26 Monteith Row, Calton, Glasgow, Scotland.1 2 (Helen DARROCH was born in 1844 in Crosshill, Ayrshire, Scotland 6 and died on 1 July 1882 6.)

The marriage took place according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was David Mitchell and the witnesses John Smith and Martha Aulla. 1
