General Notes:
Old Parish Register Killean and Kilchenzie Parish Argyll
"1849 Births and Baptisms Alexander lawful son of Alexr Mac Kendrick Blary and Ann Mac Millan born 18th Decr Bapt "
Note: Several of the entries that follow that of Alexander McKendrick have the same format -date of birth followed by the word 'bapt'. or 'baptized' with no date of baptism. This may indicate that the child was baptized elsewhere, that is in a nonconformist church, and the minister was simply recording the child as having been born within his established Church of Scotland parish.
The Disruption had taken place in 1843, a rebellion bringing into being the Free Church of Scotland. A Free church, manse and school were constructed in 1846 in the parish in question. This may or may not be the explanation for the absence of a baptism date. The family may have belonged to another nonconformist church, including the Catholic Church.
When Alexander McKendrick died in 1875 his death certificate recorded his age at death as 23 years. He was a single man who worked as a farm servant. 3
Medical Notes:
J. Cunningham MB CB certified the cause of death.
Alexander McKendrick, father of the youth who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of his son's death before the registrar at Campbeltown on 8 October and made his X mark.
