James Lawful Son to Don^d McMillan and Margaret Quilkan in Tangiemill Born Oct 20th"

1841 Census:
James, an agricultural labourer, aged 55-59 years and Mary McMillan, aged 50-54 years, were living at Tayintruan, Killean, Argyll, with their five daughters. Another three people, also called McMillan: Donald aged 50-54 years, Donald aged 20-24 years, and Duncan (?) aged 8 years, were also living in the household. The latter two were also children of James and Mary. (The relationships are not specified by the 1841 census.) All of them were born in Argyll. The daughters listed were, Margaret and Mary, both 20-24 years, Barbera 15 years, Catherine 12 years, and Anabella 5 years.

In the 1871 death certificate of his son Duncan, James was recorded as a crofter (deceased).

When Mary McMillan died in 1873 her death certificate recorded her as the widow of James McMillan, agricultural labourer.

James was recorded as a farmer in his daughter Ann's death certificate in 1899. He was deceased by then. ³

TANGIEMILL

This is now known as Tangy Mill. It is situated between Killocraw and Kilchenzie, near the A83 in the south west of the Mull of Kintyre.

James married Mary McMURCHY, daughter of Donald McMURCHY and Anny McLEAN, on 30 January 1811 in Killean and Kilchenzie Parish, Argyll, Scotland.^{1 2} (Mary McMURCHY was baptised on 24 September 1791 in Killean and Kilchenzie Parish, Argyll, Scotland and died 19 April 1873 at 6.00 am in Tayintruan, Killean, Argyll, Scotland.). The cause of her death was infirmities of age, long ailing.
