The 1891 census for Greenock recorded Jane McLaren living at 14 Arthur Street with her widowed mother and three siblings. She was recorded as 18 years of age and had been born in Greenock. She was a mill worker.

Jane Hay, who had been present where her mother's death occurred, gave notice of the death before the registrar, H. Borland, at Greenock on 2 April 1921. Her address was noted as 6 Arthur Street. ^{1 2}
