John McLaren predeceased his wife. When she died in April 1921, she was recorded as being 'Isabella McLaren widow of John McLaren boilermaker'. ²

John married Isabella SANDILANDS, daughter of John SANDILANDS and Jane SYMONDS, on 28 August 1868 in Lyndoch Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.¹ (Isabella SANDILANDS was born in 1837 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland ^{1 3 4} and died 1 April 1921 at 6.15 pm in 8 Arthur Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland ^{1 2}.). The cause of her death was cardiac failure and senility.

  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was Mr James Stark. The witnesses were Peter McLaren and Susan McLaren.

John McLaren, a widower was 58 years of age and of 9 Cartsburn Street, Greenock. He was a boilermaker by trade. His parents were both deceased.

Isabella Sandlins, who made her X mark, was 30 years old and single. She was of the same address as the groom. Only her father's name was included in the parents' column.

The marriage was registered at Greenock on 31 August 1868, the registrar being H. MacMillan.
