Robert married Marjorie CARNEGIE, daughter of David CARNEGIE Earl of Southesk, Lord Carnegie of Kinnaird and Leuchars and Margaret LINDSAY, before 1639.1 (Marjorie CARNEGIE was born about 1607, died on 22 December 1651 1 and was buried in 1651 in Bervie parish, Kincardineshire, Scotland 1.)

Robert next married Katherine FRASER, daughter of Hugh FRASER 7th Lord Fraser of Lovat and Isobel WEMYSS, on 30 June 1653.2 (Katherine FRASER was born in 1622 2 and died on 18 October 1663 2 3.)

"Katherine .... was married, rather against her will, to Sir John Sinclair of Dunbeath. After his death she was married, 30 June 1653, to her cousin, Lord Arbuthnot. He died in 1655...."
